Gavin Buckley, Candidate for Anne Arundel County Council District 6, wins major endorsements from Democrat Leaders, including Congressman Jamie Raskin.
Buckley, the former Mayor of Annapolis, was also recently endorsed by current District 6 Representative Lisa Rodvien which means he has now been endorsed by all of the last three elected District 6 Representatives.
ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 4, 2026) Gavin Buckley, former Mayor of Annapolis and candidate for Anne Arundel County District 6, today received the endorsement of Congressman Jamie Raskin, Representative for Maryland's 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Gavin is an inspiring leader and a fearless fighter for his local community who has taken on challenges that have defeated others and won,” Rep. Raskin noted. “His vision and forceful advocacy to State and Federal partners was key to securing funding for the Annapolis City Dock Resilience Project. He has the kind of creative persistence that makes all the difference in public life. The people of Anne Arundel County and indeed all of us in our state, are lucky to have Gavin in our politics and fighting for us.”
Raskin and Buckley came to know each other during Buckley’s years as Mayor of Annapolis. They campaigned together in support of County Executive Steuart Pittman’s re-election bid in 2022 and spent time together attending the Annapolis Film Festival.
Buckley described Raskin’s endorsement as deeply humbling. “Jamie Raskin is an American hero and one of my personal heroes,” Buckley said. “He has stood strong against anti-democratic forces and worked ceaselessly for the good of our state and our country. This endorsement means more than I can express and strengthens my resolve to be the kind of leader and advocate for my community that Jamie Raskin has been for all of us.”
Buckley’s campaign also recently announced the endorsement of current District 6 Representative, Lisa Rodvien. Rodvien, who is retiring when her term ends in December, shared the endorsement via her personal and public Facebook accounts.
“Gavin’s record as Mayor of Annapolis reflects the leadership, determination, and vision needed to effectively represent District 6 on the Anne Arundel County Council,” Rodvien noted. “His work advancing the City Dock project is a prime example. He created numerous opportunities for public input, built broad community support, and persevered despite opposition. Today, the project is funded and underway, transforming a frequently flooded parking lot into a space worthy of one of the nation’s most historic and special cities.”
Rodvien also noted Buckley’s work to reform finance and budgeting at the City of Annapolis, resulting the City achieving its highest ever credit rating; as well as his driving vision in saving the last parcel of Elktonia/ Carr’s Beach from development; and his leadership through the Covid-19 pandemic – among other achievements.

Rodvien’s blessing means that Buckley has now been endorsed by the last three elected District 6 representatives. Both Chris Trumbauer, District 6 Representative 2010-18, and Josh Cohen, District 6 Representative 2006-09, endorsed Buckley early in his campaign.
Buckey adds these latest endorsement to those already received from Maryland Governor Wes Moore, former Governor Parris Glendening, numerous county and state elected officials, community leaders and City Council members, and a number of leading labor organizations – including the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County, AFCSME, the Baltimore Metro AFL-CIO and the Mid-Atlantic Pipe Trades Association. He has also been designated a Gun Sense Candidate by Moms Demand Action.
“I believe the endorsements I’ve received from across our county and state, speak to the partnerships I’ve built and the results I’ve delivered,” Buckley noted. “I intend to put those partnerships to work for District 6 and keep delivering – on resilience and preserving the environment, on funding for our schools, and on tackling the complex – but solvable – issue of affordability ”
